Govt has given TAZARA about K1 billion for recapitalisation since 2013 – Ng’andu

FINANCE Minister Dr Bwalya Ng’andu says government has funded Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) K992 million since 2013 for capitalisation purposes to meet the company’s salary obligations and retirement packages. Debating a motion moved by Kapiri Mposhi UPND member of parliament Stanley Kakubo who called for Parliament to urge government to intervene in the payment of terminal benefits of TAZARA retirees, Dr Ng’andu said the motion was a surprise to him because government had been intervening on the matter. “The motion comes as a surprise to me because the government through the Ministry of Finance has periodically contributed to the capitalisation needs of TAZARA in compliance with its obligations under our bilateral agreement with Tanzania.
