Attend to the plight of protesting prosecutors, HRC urges govt

HUMAN Rights Commission (HRC) Chairperson Mudford Mwandenga has called on government to quickly resolve the issue surrounding the continued sit-in protest being conducted by public prosecutors. Yesterday the sit-in protest entered its fourth day, crippling the progress of cases at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court. The prosecutors are demanding that government resolve the issues relating to underpayments of their retirement packages. Some prosecutors, majority of whom have worked in the Zambia Police service before being transferred to the National Prosecutions Authority (NPA), said they are not paid terminal benefits for the years they work for NPA but are only paid for the period served as police officers.
