E/Province poor due to high levels of illiteracy – M’membe

SOCIALIST Party leader Dr Fred M’membe says Eastern Province has remained the fourth poorest province in the country due to high levels of illiteracy. Dr M’membe was speaking in Kasenengwa district of Eastern Province where he went to officiate at the graduation ceremony of the Fred M’membe Literacy and Agroecology Campaign. He noted that people who were ignorant were easily exploited and deceived. “You cannot liberate yourself in today’s world without the ability to read and write. You cannot liberate yourself today if you are ignorant. In the same spirit our people resisted 124 years ago, today we are resisting against ignorance. Because ignorance leads to subjugation.
